Everyone competes for different reasons. Some do it to give them a goal to lose weight. Some do it to take their body past the point it was at previously and get into the absolute best shape of their life. Others do it simply because they want to be pitted against the best physiques out there or to get exposure to open doors for modeling etc.
Want Magazine Exposure?
If you’re competing to get maximum exposure so that one day you can make a living in the fitness industry as a spokes model, then you want to compete in the shows where you’re going to get the most magazine exposure possible. Get yourself in magazines and you can start building your portfolio up which will be essential to making a name for yourself. If magazines aren’t actually at the shows you’re entering or do not even support the federation you’re in, how will your photos ever appear in their magazine or on their website? Watch out for federations that claim that they can get you in one magazine or another. Most times they’re straight out lying to you.
Which Magazines Cover Competitions?
The biggest magazines in the bodybuilding and fitness industry such as:
- Muscle & Fitness
- Muscle & Fitness Hers
- FLEX
- MUSCLE INSIDER
- MD
- NPC News
All of the above magazines include some contest coverage photos for IFBB sanctioned contests. Grab a copy of any new issue of any of the above magazines and see if you find any contest coverage of shows from the IDFA, WBFF, SAF, or any of the other federations that exists here in Canada. Don’t believe what contest promoters might tell you, do your research. If you’re thinking of doing a show and want the chance to have your images seen in any of the top magazines in the industry, you’re best to compete in the CBBF/IFBB sanctioned shows.
